The Taming of Corky
Nine-year-old Corky manages to miraculously survive the plane crash that kills his parents and everyone else aboard. He faces a struggle for his life in the freak snowstorm that downed the plane, alone in a vast wilderness.
The Taming of Corky is a story about love, both the love of a young, childless couple reaching out to a lost child, and the fulfillment of love the child might bring to them. Jan and Bert Whittier have yearned for a child for the twelve years of their marriage, hungry to become parents. Nine-year-old Corky is the sole survivor of the plane crash that killed both his parents and left him in the wilderness, desperately trying to survive on his own. When Jan and Corky stumble across each other in the woods several months after the crash, their story truly begins. Will their chance meeting satisfy both their needs, or will circumstances keep them apart?

About Me
Dr. Jane Nixon White, award-winning poet and essayist, is a veteran teacher whose writing crosses genres. Her first book, Life and Things Like Rocks, is an anthology of poems and prayers for children. Her other published works include history, plays, and her Doctoral Dissertation on student motivation. Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Dr. White has called Florida home for most of her life. She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, and holds M. Ed. and Doctoral Degrees from the University of North Florida. She has been recognized by Poetry.com and the International Library of Poetry as a Top Poet of the Year 2000, and has been published in Troll Communications' groundbreaking e-book, Doughnuts From the Teachers' Lounge. The Taming of Corky is her first novel.
Jane is currently working on a two-book series on World War II, which is the posthumous memoir of her parents. Her father was General George S. Patton's 3rd Army, 8th Division Chaplain in the European Theater, and was decorated twice for bravery in battle, including the Battle of the Bulge. More than a war story, this is the love story of a very special couple separated by war, and told through the hundreds of letters they wrote to each other daily throughout the war.

The Taming of Corky is a great book by a great author. But, don't take my word for it -- view this book on Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/0759610967) and read the reviews by teachers and students alike. They all love it, and it has a 5-star rating.

Well, as the title suggests, I've had a big change of plans! On excellent editing and publishing advice, I've decided to pass on the contract offer for now, and "go back to the drawing board."
Instead of a two book set, the WWII memoir will be one book, rather than two. Deep sigh... I know, more work and lots of time, but I think the project will be very much better (it feels right).
I may take some time totally away from it, rest, and go to Ireland, then start fresh when I get back. Sounds good to me!

Is it just an interesting coincidence that the nine year old Dutch boy who recently survived a plane crash faced the same set of circumstances as Corky, the nine year old in my novel, The Taming of Corky did? Or was it life mimicking fiction, or was it prophecy? Hmmm...

Update on my status: Found an agent, my book has been submitted to a publisher, and they've offered me a contract! Here I go!
What's up with me lately

I have just finished wrtiting Book I of the posthumous World War II memoir of my parents. My father was an Episcopal priest who served as the 8th Divisional Chaplain in General George S. Patton's 3rd Army in Europe. He was also a US Army Ranger who trained right along with his troops, and was awarded Bronze Stars in the hedgerows of France and at the Battle of the Bulge. The books are based on the hundreds of letters my parents wrote back and forth all during the war. I call Book I The Colonel's Lady, and Book II will be The Fighting Chaplain.
I am currently seeking a literary agent, and so far have sent out 122 query letters! Wish me luck!
