TOPIC: Getting "you're not authorized" messages

Getting "you're not authorized" messages 4 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 1
Sometimes when I'm clicking around the site, I'll get an error message that says "You're not authorized to view this page."

I also get the message after I copy the link to my profile and post it on an outside site (such as Facebook). I go to check the link, and the message appears. Usually it disappears after about five seconds and the page comes up.

Weird.

I am definitely not a Facebook fan. I think I need "Facebook for Dummies." After repeatedly clicking on your Facebook link, signing in, clicking again, trying to search (by every means known to man and then some)... I never found your Facebook profile so I could try to click the link myself.

I'm not sure what would cause this since all profiles are set to be viewable by the public. I'll keep looking in to it, and would appreciate knowing if others have similar trouble.

Hey, Jamie --

Huh. Here's the link: www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=620210904

I use a Mac. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Do you like MySpace better? I need a presence on one of them -- don't care which....but I really know zip about either.

Here's an update to this because I see a LOT of people have been clicking on this one. First of all, I am now a FaceBook fan because since writing the post above, I have learned to better use FaceBook and enjoy connecting with people there.

Secondly, in regard to the login issue, we are planning an upgrade this fall which we hope will correct that. Nonetheless, most of those occur with older browsers, particularly IE6 and below. But, there are other reasons too. Here are a few tips that may help if you get the dreaded login problem.

*Try loggin out when you leave the site, so you're computer doesn't become confused later.

*Need to remove Cookies? More info at the bottom of this note.

*It may be a cookies issue, particularly with Internet Explorer (but this problem could affect any of the browsers). If you have trouble logging in, try checking your browser's options tab for cookies, then delete any cookies that refer to PolkaDotBanner.com. Quit your browser, restart it, and make sure the cookies are gone. Unfortunately, if it is a cookies issue, this can only be corrected on your computer by deleting them, it isn't something we can correct from here at this time.

*In addition, on Internet Explorer, you may need to add the PDB website into your "trusted site list." From your IE main menu, select Tools > compatibility view settings > add www.PolkaDotBanner.com -- then go to Tools > Internet Options > Security tab and select "Trusted Sites." Add www.PolkaDotBanner.com there too. Also on the Security tab, under "Secrity Level for this Zone" click on "default Level" and click okay to save. Exit, quit IE, and restart. (Note... I didn't design IE8 or their difficult to use program!)

For best results use Firefox!
